Using Bazzite by June 24 on my main NVidia Gaming PC - I want it on Steam Deck Too

Hey everyone!

I’m currently using a 256GB Steam Deck with stock SteamOS, and it works flawlessly. However, I’m a big fan of Bazzite—I’ve been running it on my main PC since June 2024 and absolutely love it. Now, I’m considering installing it on my Deck to customize it even further and make it truly unique.

For those who have already made the switch:

• What are the main advantages over stock SteamOS?
• Are there any downsides to be aware of? Compatibility issues, updates, or potential bugs?
• How do performance, battery life, stability, and overall smoothness compare?

I’m really tempted to make the jump, but I’d love to hear some real-world experiences before I go ahead. Thanks a lot to anyone willing to share their thoughts!

• Documentation highlights the differences between SteamOS and Bazzite
• SELinux may break functionality in native Linux games that do no-no things
  • Half-Life 2’s music will not play since the Source Engine’s audio encoder executes heap memory, but a fix is outlined in the Bazzite documentation.
• Performance and battery should be on par. Keeping Bazzite up to date means newer Linux kernels, desktop environments, core utils, etc. than on SteamOS which means a higher chance of regressions can occur because this is the Linux desktop.

I run Bazzite on my 64GB Deck solely due to btrfs w/ deduplication and compression out of the box plus it’s my HTPC setup so automatically launching games at the native resolution of my TV (1080p) is better than 800p like SteamOS does by default.
