I wanted to try out the new Nvidia 555 driver and so I decided to rebase into the testing branch of Bazzite. The driver itself seems great, but I’m having issues with KDE Plasma panels freezing and occasionally plasma shell crashing entirely. I can fix it by opening krunner and executing kwin_wayland --replace
. Just wondering if these are known issues and probably will be fixed or something unique to my system and I should avoid updating when 3.1 comes out.
I had the same problem, and it seems it was caused by the taskbar settings in my case. I had it set to adaptive width and floating. After I switched back to stable I changed the settings to show full width and no float then rebased to testing again and I’ve not have KDE freeze on me since.
Hi thanks for the advice. It appears that the panels freezing was just a symptom of a wider plasma shell issue. It appears that the whole desktop freezes in the background (I can’t right click the desktop or anything).
Another update on the buggy behaviour, it appears it has something to do with the panel auto-hiding feature. I have two panels - one above and one below the screen. When the top panel freezes, I am able to interact with the bottom panel and this would magically unfreeze the top panel. Both panels have auto-hide enabled. I temporarily disabled auto-hiding for the top panel and the freezing issue seemed to have gone away. I would say that this hypothesis would require more testing to be sure.
I had to switch back to the stable branch for the moment, because some time after boot, all (firefox based) browsers seem to crash and won’t stay open. Reboot brings some relieve but soon after either the panels freeze or apps keep crashing.
