I just switched from windows from to bazzite with my gtx 1660 system to try to fix the system wide consistent stutter I’ve been having for a week now, but it seems that its significantly worse on bazzite than on windows. Is there anything I can do or is it a hardware problem?
On windows, it only stutters when I have nvidia drivers installed, but I cant play any games with the fallback driver.
Do you have access to a friends or secondary GPU? You have to check if the GPU is dying. If you don’t have access to a second GPU you can remove the GPU and try the integrated one(if you have one) otherwise it would be a smart idea to take it to a shop so they can use their own hardware there to check if the problem persists.
Also dont count on the problem being on the GPU only it can also be because of the motherboard or the PCIe slot kicking it. You can try another slot too if you have a motherboard with more than one x16 slot and see if the stutters stop that way. If they do its your motherboard.
Unfortunately without direct access to the machine I cant give you more specific troubleshooting info. Only thing I can tell you is that if your problems persists across OSes then its 99% Hardware.
Alright. Thanks for the help!
You could also try this, see if it alleviates things a bit. But given you had issues on Windows too, it might be the card.
99% sure this is a hardware issue, check all the fans are operating on CPU and GPU, check if the coolers are block by dust.
The fact its stuctterng and not hard locking/crashing make it sound like major thermal throttling or a GPU on its last legs.
Can you list the hardware specs of your machine?
