Strawberry or Rhythmbox for Managing iPod

Hello,
I am a new user of Linux, and have had a fun time exploring and trying out different application’s. I’ve so far only used flathub through the “Discover” app, to download my application’s, however, I am not having any good luck finding a music player that can recognize my ipod. I’ve looked around and found that the compiled application’s outside of flathub usually compile the application with GTKpod or libgpod. I’ve tried going through the terminal to install these pre-compiled application’s that have libgpod or GTKpod, but homebrew is not helpful in installing application’s in this way. Anyway to make this a bit more painless?

Any tips?

I am using Aurora on the Framework 13 (AMD Ryzen 5), thanks!

Keep in mind that flatpaks are sandboxed and that is why your music player might not see your iPod. Have a look at flatseal (com.github.tchx84.Flatseal) which allows you to tweak the permissions of your flatpaks.

With that being said: I do not know

  1. which permissions need to be enabled
  2. which music players support iPods

But maybe someone else can chime in on these questions?

Hi there! As far as I can tell there is no way to get modern iOS devices to fully work with Linux. ibimobiledevice seems like it’s still being actively developed, but it’s not on par with iOS support on Windows/macOS yet, and the functionality you’re looking for doesn’t seem to exist yet. gtkpod seems to be dead; it’s recently archived but the last commit was 8 years ago.

If you have an early-gen Apple Device there might be a chance of it working, but I’m not sure what hoops you will have to go through. I recall people were already having problems making their iPods and iPhones interact with Linux ever since iOS 6 days… as for me, I vaguely remember going through my music files in an iPod Touch on Ubuntu 10.04/11.04, not sure how I did that LOL

Update:
I think I am really close to being able to crack the solution using BoxBuddy. I installed this new container with fedora 40 with the latest update of Strawberry, and the issue I suppose I am having now is that I want to give this container permission’s to recognize my iPod through USB. It was able to be recognized on the flatpak version, it just didn’t have the plugin “libgpod” to edit/interpret anything.
