Since today I can’t get my PC to boot properly anymore and I frankly don’t know what to do.
I’m running the regular desktop bazzite with an AMD graphics card.
Yesterday it was working fine and I updated it via ujust just like normal. Today, when I boot it, it boots fine until the lockscreen. After entering my password, the screen goes black and only the mouse cursor appears on a black screen. After a few minutes, my wallpaper appears but still no KDE or anything. I can open alacritty via my keyboard shortcut but not e. g. dolphin. After a long time, the desktop appears but no programs start. I suppose if I let it sit long enough, it may come back to normal operation.
The worrying thing is that this happens on every deployment that I have, the oldest being 42.20250708. I have one pinned and two others, one of those the current 42.20250718. In every one of these I get this behaviour even though they have all worked fine before.
Does anyone have any idea how to diagnose and solve this? Thanks a lot.
I used ujust logs-this-boot (great command!) to see if that would give me any clues and it did. I noticed that there were a lot of error messages surrounding my NFS shares that are being mounted via fstab on startup. I checked and indeed my NAS where those are hosted was powered down, apparently there was a power-outage during the night (I like to not have it auto-boot after power comes on because in the rare cases that we do get power outages, it’s usually a few more back-to-back as the net is being brought back and I don’t want my server to be violently shut down that often).
After powering my NAS up again and with the NFS shares available, the PC boots just fine again.
I guess I’ll be doing more research now on fstab about the launch options there so that a failure to connect to my network drives doesn’t bog down my PC.
