Sanity check for non-custom image installs (1pass, brave, steam, etc)

I’ve ended up making custom aurora image to include items i was struggling with other ways: 1password, brave, steam, gamescope CLI, VSCode; and works great!

I’d like to be prepared in case custom image becomes too much to manage. Would these be best way (in your experience) to install stuff on aurora:

  • steam + gamescope: distrobox fedora-toolbox, since they work great in mutable fedora, and i need them to interact
  • 1password + brave: also distrobox fedora-toolbox. There is ujust script for 1password, but feels less contained?
  • VSCode: there’s ujust script, but could also be distrobox

I had good luck with distrobox, with the exception that on taskbar, i’d sometimes get multiple icons if i pin one. Not ideal but managable.

i’m exploring bbrew and found out that some of these might also be solved by casks, although I assume these are workarounds until app makes do flatpak properly

Did a quick test with distrobox for browser and 1pass, and it works.

Note that there’s ublue brew for 1pass, and experimental one for browser integration, so that’s coming down the pipeline most likely.
