What exactly does rebasing do? I am new to Fedora(Nobara) and was wondering if I rebase to Bazzite, does it change anything to my system like make it read only? Does it remove anything from my system? I am not really sure by rebasing my fedora install does. Never heard of such a thing on my Arch/NixOS installs.
If you are currently using Nobara, you cannot rebase to Bazzite.
Rebase is a feature of Atomic desktops where you can move from image to another.
But there is no way to move from “normal” fedora (or Nobara) to Bazzite or to Atomic based image.
Ah, thanks for the info if I wanted to could I use Nobara features on Bazzite? Like the package manager gui/tweak tool? I like Nobara I do…. But I really would prefer an atomic system. If I switch to Bazzite can I use the nix package manager still?
I use nix Home Manager on Bazzite. You can still use Nix. But for the GUI package manager, Bazzite only ship with the DE default, plus Bazzite Portal. The experience in this regard should still be similar.
Okay and I see that in docs that to install cosmic I would need to edit the template…. I am guessing there’s no easier way? Since theres a regular fedora command for it:
dnf copr enable ryanabx/cosmic-epoch
dnf install cosmic-desktop
EDIT FOUND THIS:
this command was found
wget https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/ryanabx/cosmic-epoch/repo/fedora-$(rpm -E %fedora)/ryanabx-cosmic-epoch-fedora-$(rpm -E %fedora).repo -O /etc/yum.repos.d/_copr_ryanabx-cosmic.repo
rpm-ostree install cosmic-epoch
on fedora project discussion: edfloreshz/cosmic-epoch - Fedora Discussion
Would that work?
If you want to try Cosmic, no need to deap with COPR, you can just do this:
rpm-ostree rebase ostree-unverified-registry:ghcr.io/billyaddlers/stellarite:stable
I’d imagine official Universal Blue Cosmic variants will come after it reached stable and upstream Fedora puts out their official version.
Thanks for all the help, Ill check out Stellarite if I don’t like it I’ll try base Bazzite, gnome isn’t too bad with a load of extensions hehe.
