Since Fedora already has an atomic Cosmic spin, is it planned to make a Bazzite version with Cosmic DE?
Sorry if this has been asked before. The only thing I found was an Aurora maintainer saying it will not be done for Aurora and I believe I saw someone say that it will be done for Bazzite only.
Is there an ETA on that by chance?
I tried to get Bazzite KDE to work for me, but it was too glitchy (as KDE has been the two other times I tried it, admittedly Plasma 6 is MUCH better). I suppose I can get over the cluttered feel, but not poor performance. For example when downloading on Steam, the whole system freezes up. I tried with and without hardware acceleration. It seems to be a KDE compositor or shell issue. I never experienced this with Gnome or Hyprland before.
I’d like to use Bazzite because I like the benefits of Atomic distros (and SElinux+secureboot with Fedora) and Bazzite has most of the stuff I need part of the image which won’t need to be layered, especially Steam and many others which is nice. Gnome is well, Gnome, and I don’t want to use it anymore.
Thanks! Appreciate all the info. Totally understandable as I’m sure it’s a lot of work to maintain another DE. I think I heard it was automated so I wasn’t sure. But I tried Cosmic Atomic with Steam Flatpak and it has it’s own issues. So I wouldn’t recommend Cosmic just yet anyway.
I will try Aurora with Steam Flatpak and see how that goes, otherwise I’ll just stay where I’m at for now.
You sound like you might have a hardware problem, maybe bad RAM. I had similar freezes and crashes a few years ago, and replacing one of my RAM sticks fixed them.
Thanks for the suggestion, valid point, but the only time I saw this was when on Bazzite. Aurora with Steam Flatpak is actually working great. I am thinking that my system does not like the kernel mods done to Bazzite.
And no issues with KDE either. In fact it’s fantastic after a bunch of customization to make it more keybind and multiple desktop focused. Have it very similar and clean like I had on Hyprland (sans tiling of course). Didn’t know you could remove title bars globally in the theme which is awesome and removes a lot of clutter.
Super impressed so far. Looking forward to just living my life and using my PC not having to worry about anything. Even though I can do a lot manually, I don’t get paid for it and work enough hours at my job already
The same thing happened to me, my system worked fine with some distros and/or DEs, but I had problems with others, coincidentally those that took full advantage of the PC resources like RAM or disks.
