I’m new on Linux and started using Bazzite as distro on my main system about a year ago. Therefore I’m still very inexperienced with the processes and lingo.
I’ve run into an issue in which after I launch the automatic “System update” process, I get a series of errors saying that some flatpacks regarding freedesktop, Gnome and kde are end of life and should be updated.
However since the listed apps don’t appear on any list, specifically not even in the Bazaar application, I’m not sure how I should go about it.
Can anyone help me to understand what the next steps are in order to properly update the system?
It happens when apps are still built against older runtimes that have reached end of life. The apps still work, but the runtime no longer receives updates. It depends on the app maintainer to rebuild against a newer runtime. Flathub has discussed encouraging maintainers to keep runtimes current, but forcing it could result in removing or breaking popular apps.
As a user, there is nothing you can do. At most, you should report consider removing the apps that rely on those runtimes for security reasons.
Those notices are more for developers. So you can consider reporting it to the developers, but chances are that they already know but don’t care or have reasons to delay upgrading (like major bugs in newer runtimes).
