Following the recent upgrade to Fedora 40 in Bazzite 3.0, which encountered a number of upstream issues, I’d like to propose the introduction of a beta tag within the Bazzite images. This would provide a valuable middle ground between the current testing tag and the stable tag.
Here’s the proposed breakdown of tags:
- testing: Primarily used by the Bazzite development team for internal testing (as is currently the case). But still open to the public if they want bleeding edge
- beta: Targeted towards community members interested in trying out the latest features after they’ve been validated by the development team. This beta tag acts as a buffer between testing and stable release, allowing for valuable feedback from more technical users before wider adoption.
- stable: This remains the primary tag for the general user base who prioritize a smooth and reliable Bazzite experience.
It might be worth allowing the community to sign up as a beta tester for specific hardware like the Rog Ally, the Lenovo Legion etc so we have at least one tester using each specialized handheld. This will make moving from beta to stable easier.
