Open option missing from context menu in Dolphin

Hi All,
I recently noticed that when I right click on a file in Dolphin, the “open” and “open with…” items are not there. I use these all the time (as I’m sure most of us do). I checked the context menu configuration, interestingly they are not there, so I’m guessing they are defaults that are always in the context menu. I selected every option in the list, to be sure to be sure, but found that still lots of them were not present on right click on a file.

Here is a partial list of the context menu selections I’ve set for Dolphin. There are quite a lot that don’t appear when I right click.

Not sure what I’m missing or haven’t done.

All advice gratefully received.

Have you tested without the theme you are using? And also test create a new user and login with that.

I can’t repro the issue as the Open and Open with.. options are visible on my install.

Thanks for the reply.
No I have done neither of those things, I’ll try them.

Well, no joy there. I changed the theme to Aurora, that didn’t change anything. I created a new user and logged in with that, still didn’t change anything. Do I have to reinstall Aurora?..

That’s really weird. Others had this same issue, according to a web search, but with Dolphin installed as a flatpak (because a sandboxed app doesn’t have access to a list of applications in the system). Which is not the case in Aurora.

Have you tried launching Dolphin from Terminal so you can see if there are any meaningful errors? (Unfortunately, there’s a lot of junk being logged and there may be errors without consequence.)

@SylChamber No I hadn’t tried that, but I did just now, and Dolphin worked fine. Just entered the command “dolphin” in Konsole (or whatever it is). So I checked in the menu editor to see what the launcher was launching. Turns out it was a flatpak version of Dolphin. Not sure how that happened, but I changed it to execute the “builtin” Dolphin and it now seems to be working again. All the other items I’ve selected in the context menu seem to be there too. Think I’ll just deinstall the flatpak version.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Edit. Just reread your post and noticed you mentioned the issue with the flatpak version. That’ll teach me to skim…
