Moving File From One Folder To Another??

I downloaded a zip file today and tried to move it to another folder and it won’t let me. I set permissions to allow owner and group to highest setting and still cannot move the file. HOW RIDICULOUS is THAT?? Can’t even move a file… I have NOT had this issue with other OS’s.

How am I suppose to move a file from one folder to another??

Which Operating System:

Operating System: Aurora 42
KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.17.0
Qt Version: 6.9.1
Kernel Version: 6.14.11-300.fc42.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 12 × Intel® Core™ i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz
Memory: 16 GiB of RAM (15.2 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor: Intel® UHD Graphics
Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
Product Name: Precision 7750

Which Version:
Was the current user (you) given administrator status during the install:
I installed it on my laptop. WHY wouldn’t I get admin privileges?

What directory is the .zip file currently in: DOWNLOAD
What directory do you want it in: USB FLASH DRIVE

Could you please show the command you issued? The error message you get. The permissions of the destination directory?

Could you please give more context to this whole situation?

You have admin privileges, I think you may just be a little confused over how permissions work (on external storage).

Right-clicking the storage in dolphin and going to the “permissions” tab should give you a clue.

I didn’t use ANY command. I simply tried dragging and dropping the file to another folder.

But it wouldn’t let me drop it anywhere! USB Flash Drive OR regular folder.

YAH… Admin is set to the highest permissions and I set Group to highest permissions, yet I cannot move the file.

I’m FAR from being confused and WHAT extra info do you need on simply moving a file from one folder to another?? I think if I cannot resolve this, I will be going back to MINT!

I think I’m going back to MINT. I also posted to Fedora’s forum and a couple of guys investigated and have written this distro OFF due to a few issues including it being an immutable os. They said not being able to xfer a file is a FEATURE??? SCREW THAT!!!

I’m GONE!!!

I had that problem several years ago with Fedora workstation. Reformating the USB drive fixed my problem. Alternatively, it may be that the drive is mounted read-only. Anyway, if Mint is your jam, best wishes.

Perhaps try doing it using the cp command in a terminal. Then you will get an error message which could better help to find out what goes wrong.

There is no need to be that angry/aggressive when people are trying to help you and ask questions.

Would love to see the “fedora convo” where people write this off because “immutability”. Just fyi, we are not immutable.

Who talks like that? Bye then?

You could literally post a video of whats annoying you and we could help you solve it most likely with one reply.

The way you talk is embarrassing.
