Greetings-
I use a cloud storage service called Filen, and I would like to mount it as a network drive. I’m having a problem as described below:
Hello-
I’m unable to mount my Filen storage as a network drive, an error message pops up "Mount point needs to be inside your home directory (home/).
My mount point starts with var/, probably because I run the immutable distro Aurora, which has a slightly different file system structure. Any workaround?
The response from Filen tech support was this:
Thank you for reaching out to us.
The error message you’re seeing — “Mount point needs to be inside your home directory (home/)” — is a known limitation and is intentionally enforced for stability and security reasons. The Filen Desktop Client currently only supports mounting the network drive inside your home directory.
This is also explained in our documentation here:
Network Drive | Filen DocsSince you’re using an immutable distribution like Aurora where the default structure may differ (e.g., using /var/), a workaround would be to mount Filen to a directory within your home folder (such as /home/yourusername/filen-drive). If you need access elsewhere, you could optionally create a symbolic link or bind mount from your desired system location to that folder.
We hope this helps, and please let us know if you need assistance setting it up.
Best regards
Filen Support
Is there a way to accomplish this?
Thanks!
