Isn't bluefin a tuna fish?

Bruh

Like the project, but not understanding the dinosaurs. Every time I shutdown or reboot, the plymouth dinosaur logo makes me feel like I’m visiting a 4-year-old’s bedroom. “Raaarrrr!”

I get someone on the team is like, super enthusiastic about them, but the name “bluefin” isn’t even a dinosaur, it’s a ginormous mercury-laden fish famous for fetching millions of dollars at Tsukiji fish market.

Am I missing something here?

That’s an anthropocentric centric view – that’s our fault, not the tuna’s. Tunas are incredible super predators:

We needed a name and Bluefin was the name of the building where Canonical’s offices used to be, so we picked that: Frequently Asked Questions | Bluefin

Bluefin tuna pass the “badass” test so I think it’s an awesome association. It was my 2nd choice for a logo but ultimately when I saw Jacob’s dinosaur art I knew that was the one for us.

There’s also a flatfin tuna, we’ve joked about naming a Flatcar derived Bluefin as Flatfin.

Flatfin? Yeah, just for the halibut.

But then the question from @averyfreeman is even more to the point. Why is the name explained as a type of dinosaur on the website and is there even a dinosaur during boot?

Why not pay respect to the name and show a drawing of a Bluefin tuna? I totally agree they are amazing apex predator beings!

It’s funny you mention the Plymouth dinosaur, I was just trying out various ublue images and thought it looked a little out of place detail-wise. I would have expected something similar to the stylized f or something like the bazzite logo. It’ll give my parents a laugh when they see it. (I’m just looking forward to not having to spend visiting time maintaining their systems)
