High Idle Temperature on Ryzen AI 300 Series

On my Framework Laptop 13 with Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 running Bluefin-dx GTS, I’m experiencing high idle temperature (generally ~52C). I have a detailed thread going on the topic over at the FW community.

It seems Kernel v6.15 has the idle temp issue more or less resolved. I was wondering how long it’s going to be before v6.15 makes it to the GTS? Also, is there anything I can change/configure until that happens to improve the idle temp??

For kicks, I rebased to Bluefin-dx Latest which has the latest v6.15 kernel. Unfortunately, it didn’t help with high idle temp. That’s surprising because the idle high temp issue is resolved on Fedora Workstation which also has the v6.15 kernel. I ran these tests on a spare SSD I got.

We use stock fedora kernel on the latest. On stable we have the CoreOS kernel although it’s currently pinned to 6.14.11 because of the btrfs issues in 6.15

We don’t touch the configs so something else is in play here. Have you confirmed that the “issue” is fixed on your machine with the Fedora Workstation?

High temps might also be because something wrong with the hardware.

Oh right Bazzite uses its own kernel and includes some patches

Yes, I have confirmed that. The fully updated version of Fedora Workstation doesn’t have the high idle temp issue. I have also confirmed that Bluefin-dx Latest does have the high idle temp issue. Both tests were performed on the same hardware so it’s unlikely something is wrong with the hardware.
