HDMI audio without video, possible?

Is it possible in Bazzite-Gnome to connect a 7.1 channel AVR via HDMI, but without adding a second display at the same time? My monitor is connected via DisplayPort, and I’ve got nothing connected to the HDMI out of my AVR. Nevertheless, Bazzite always adds an “invisible” screen, causing my mouse pointer, windows, login prompts and the occasional game go lost on the screen.

I only want HDMI audio, not video on the same link.

All I know about is when the TV or even the AVR have no video single, they won’t play any audio. That’s on the TV or AVR doing that.

The speaker on the bottom right panel will point you to what ever you want the sound to go. I don’t have a second Display port or HDMI TV. So I don’t know how to fix that way. This may not be the solution.

I do have a 7.1 AVR too.

You can try controlling what is the primary display. I don’t know it that would work though.

Have you tried just setting it to mirror the primary display?

Mirroring the primary display will switch off features like HDR and VRR, as my AVR does not support those for the video.

If audio without video is not possible (by HDMI standard), then the driver could send a dummy picture (all black, or even containing the text “audio only”).

Then my question becomes how do I hide the HDMI video screen from the Login Manager, Gnome and all Games?

Hmm, only thing I can think of is fine an app that makes the screen go blank.

The one I have is called is burnfix and it will go red, blue, green, white and black.
