GTX 1080 - CS2 25-45 FPS (180 FPS in windows)

Hi,
I run ASUS GTX 1080 (yes i know its legacy) but i get tops 45 FPS playing CS2 in Bazzite.
Steam in windows run in about 180 FPS.

I know its possible to set specific start options of a game but i have not found any options that does improve the FPS. Does anyone have a simular setup that can give a hint on what to test?

Welcome! I can’t speak to CS2, or any other Source 2 games, but the system I just upgraded from runs a ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 Mini (system specs listed below). Note, I was running Bazzite KDE.

First chance I get, I’ll slap an SSD back in there and test it out on GNOME for you!

Reporting back - Holy hell, it took a dog’s age to process vulkan shaders! I’ve played CS2 maybe once or twice on Windows when it came out but otherwise I have no frame of reference for how it should perform on my hardware. In general I tend to stick to 1080p gaming, and those results felt pretty good judging from the ol’ butt dyno.

Apologies for lack of video or screenshots, did this kind of hastily with the time I had available but happy to go back and try to capture the FPS details.

For the system settings:

  • Power is set to Performance
  • Res at 1440
  • Scaling at 100%
  • HDR off
  • VRR off because otherwise I ran into an issue where the screen would randomly go blank for about 2-4 seconds

CS2 Settings

  • The only settings I modified were the Resolution, and then Preset
  • Each test on Practice > Arms Race > Pool Party
  • Stopped after 1080 Med because it was clear it could

1440 High averaged around 70-90, but frequently dipped under 60
1440 Med saw improvement averaging around 90-110
1440 Low could easily hit 120 but wasn’t exactly staying there

1080 High cruised around 100+
1080 Med no issues hitting 120+
1080 Low could hit 165 in a lot of spots but otherwise was in the 140 range

Didn’t feel confident about those guesstimates so went back and grabbed screenshots of FPS details during gameplay. Seems like the numbers are all over the map but, anecdotally, the gameplay was much smoother this second go around.
