I have clients asking me to install linux on their laptops as they mostly use their browser and they want to get away from windows.
Is there a way to defer User creation to them and just install the OS and nothing else? I dont want to install fedora atomics because they dont include the batteries so I would like to know if its possible on the ublue images. I would prefer to not have to edit a kickstart file and just make the changes from the UI if possible.
On the gnome images the user creation is on first boot, so if you want to give them a fresh install do the install on the system, then you can give it to them to fill out the rest.
(This won’t work if you want to encrypt the disk though as that’s during installation.)
You are correct but almost all my clients are from windows so I provide them with Plasma.
Is there a way to do that on the Plasma side. I know that Fedora has the Kickstart file I find that as bad as the windows answer files. I just wish I could install the Plasma image without creating a user. Really weird that KDE does not provide a simple GUI toggle during install for that
As long as there is a solutions for the problem in the future I am fine with it. Until then I will take care of the User Creation. I am just happy that KDE is working of solving this.
I just find it a bit crazy that its not a basic features that always had for years now. OOBE is something really old. Anyway better late than never!
you could potentially use dash to panel and arc menu extensions to give them a windows like environment on gnome. dash to panel has an rpm in the fedora repos. arc menu doesn’t but you could potentially install it with GNOME Shell Extension Installer or make your own rpm and put it on copr.
That is just more variables for something to got wrong. They come for windows hence the preference to Plasma. KDE supports and bugfixes for that. Same thing for gnome.
This idea should be totally fine for someone that knows his way around stuff like that like you and me but for a client that just wants his PC to work this is just a problem for future me to upkeep and fix.
