How would you have Claude desktop running on Bluefin?
Propably through Distrobox
Yeah, I’ve just tried. It’s not perfect, especially the registration/login part, but now it’s working.
BoxBuddy with Ubuntu 24.04 box.
sudo apt install alsa-utils alsa-tools lib32z1 libnss3
And then follow this GitHub - aaddrick/claude-desktop-debian: Claude Desktop for Debian-based Linux distributions
(otherwise, just a Fedora box, but I don’t know much)
Thanks a lot guys, will try it and report.
@shishimaru what does it mean for the mcp feature if it’s running in distrobox?
Does it mean it’s the containerization make it’s limited/more secure?
Thanks
I honestly doubt it can be of any difference.
I don’t know Claude. It says it kind of works like ChatGPT, so it’s not like it’s helping with my OS or the files in it.
It just works; I had to login at least three times for unknown reasons, but it works.
thanks @shishimaru !
Curious about how Claude could fit into the system, I set up a distrobox with debian and installed Claude desktop. It’s also running, but I’m having trouble registering. If I click on the link in the mail, the host browser opens, which then opens the software, where it logically does not find Claude. That’s why I installed Firefox in the distrobox. If I now want to open the link from the mail in this browser, nothing happens. So my question, how did you do it so that you can complete the registration?
I know it sounds strange, but after some minutes Claude gave me the opportunity to have a different way to register.
I just left opened the tab.
Also, in case you need to set your telephone number in the software later, the box might stay all white and you might not see the options. Just type your country and eventually will work.
