After testing Bazzite on a little Minis-Forum UM773, I wanted to build something with a little more “Steam”
I initially was going to upgrade to the Minis-Forum Neptune machine with the built in RX 6600, but after seeing recent issues with 8GB VRAM and the price was not super great, I decided to build a Mini-ITX machine.
I looked at both AMD and Intel in this regard, AMD, the board was a little cheaper, the CPU was a lot more expensive, at the end of the day its was pretty much a wash, so I went and had a look at current GPU pricing, and here in AU all you can get for $300 to $400 is 8GB GPU, so I just went onto the used market and had a look, straight away, I seen a new listing for an Arc A770 16GB card, under $300 delivered, so I grabbed this as it was a fantastic deal, then for OCD reasons, I went with the Intel Mini-ITX board and CPU.
Card arrives, and it turns out to be a brand new ASROCK card, still had the plastic peel on it, I wasn’t expecting this, but awesome I also managed to pickup for $50 AUD used, some 32GB of G.Skill Ram and a 500GB Samsung NVME drive.
So for the main components (all in AUD delivered):
Intel i3-12100F: $90
ASROCK B760-ITX/D4 Wifi (DDR4 Version has built in Wifi6 and Bluetooth): $190
32GB Dual Channel DDR4 Ram Kit: $25
500GB Samsung NVME: $25
Asrock Intel Arc A770 16GB: $285
I spent a little more on the case and power supply, as both need to pass WAF, power supply is 80+ Platinum and the case will match our Scandy décor, and it also looks like an air purifier at a glance:
Fractal Design Mood (Light Grey): $249 → Mood — Fractal Design
Silverstone Modular SFX 750w 80 Plus Platinum: $229
Entire system cost: approximately: $1100 AUD (Roughly $700 USD)
I could have gone with a much cheaper case and power supply, but unfortunately aesthetics, silence and power consumption could not be compromised on
So this is my first time running Bazzite Deck version on anything non AMD, I’m happy to report that the install went well, no issues so far with Gamescope, and I will be posting some pics, screen shots and possibly some game footage so others can get an idea on the performance, initial testing of Doom Eternal in Ultra Nightmare mode at 1200p is 90 to 130 FPS and around 100 to 150 FPS in Nightmare mode, menus and loading screen hit 700 to 800 FPS, the GPU is probably CPU bound as its the weakest CPU Intel offer, but still impressive and probably faster than AMD’s R3 4100 or R5 5500 which are both more expensive, and a generation behind.
I will test over the coming weekend and post/share some results here.
