Framework 13 (12th gen) user here. I love Bluefin and the vision it has for the future of Linux. I do however have some what of the learning curve I am still working to get over.
Basically there are 2 pieces of software that I need and I don’t see how I can run them containerized.
Resilio Sync (peer to peer dropbox like clone, not dependent on a central server) - As we don’t seem to have systemd access for the host, I’m curious how I can set this up, such that its web GUI would be accessible from localhost:8888, and that it would be able to do the file synchronization as needed.
VMware Workstation 17 Pro - The issue here is that while I can install it in a Bazitte distrobox, I am not able to install the Bluefin kernel header files. (This is because This is required so that hypervisor functionality can be added to the kernel. Is there a way to do this on Bluefin? What Distrobox based Linux distro can I use that shares the same current kernel headers with Bluefin? Fedora?
Crossover - This will install in a distrobox container, BUT it is not able to pull down the individual packages it needs for the bottles that it creates to run Windows software. IE: dnf commands fail.
So I have tried using several distros in distrobox with and without init present. I can’t get Crossover or Workstation to work.
I saw on a post from 2020 that someone running silverblue was able to get Crossover working in a toolbox they just pre-installed wine on, but that doesn’t seem to work for me either.
Really wondering if someone else using this has any luck with this kind of thing?
None, I am lazy and only try to install Windows software on Linux via Crossover. It just makes the whole process automatic and easy. However, I just can’t get it installed properly on Bluefin.
