Bazzite (Desktop / Gnome / Nvidia) and VRR configuration

Hi everyone!

I recently installed bazzite-gnome-nvidia-open:stable (up to date as of July 24th 2025) on my PC and need some help with VRR configuration.

My Setup:

  • CPU: AMD 7800X3D (iGPU disabled in BIOS)
  • GPU: RTX 3090
  • Kernel: Linux 6.15.6-105.bazzite.fc42.x86_64
  • Display: 3440×1440@180Hz connected via DisplayPort
  • Launching games through Steam in desktop mode

Issue:
I’m having trouble getting VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) to work properly—games aren’t syncing their framerate with my monitor’s refresh rate.

Questions:

  1. VRR Compatibility: Is VRR supported on my hardware configuration? Are there any known limitations I should be aware of?
  2. V-Sync Settings: Should V-Sync be enabled or disabled in games for VRR to function correctly?
  3. GNOME VRR Integration: How does GNOME’s VRR feature interact with gaming sessions?
  • Does it only work with fullscreen games?
  • Is Gamescope required?
  • Must VRR be enabled in system settings for games to utilize it?
  1. Launch Options: When should I use Steam launch options like gamescope -f %command%?
  • World War Z won’t start without this parameter, while other games run fine
  • How does this affect the gaming experience and VRR functionality?

Any guidance or resources would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
