i wanna trie something new in linux i started using fedora 5 years back and starts me bored. and i found ublue for my reaserch i found ublue have 3 distros Aurora, bluefin and bazzite and i am confused wich i could use when i am a web developer (angular, dotnet) and sometimes playing video games on my xbox controller, i preffer kde. thanks for answers. i have hp pavilion gaming 15 with amd ryzen 5600h and gtx 1650
Depends on your usage, if your main usage would be gaming and other things on the side, I would pick Bazzite.
But if its more âoffice workâ or coding, then Bluefin/Aurora, depending do you like KDE (aurora) or Gnome (bluefin) better.
i am mostly use pc for development then gaming, i play games sometimes when i have time for it so aurora is the way? and when aurora has only 2.2k users So is there a risk that the development will end and everything will be on bazzite?
I dont think we really look at our usage numbers that much. Of course its nice that we have users outside the maintainers but in the end it doesnât really matter.
so aurora will be good for me or?
Yes! Aurora will be perfect for your needs.
Bazzite DX is also an option: you get great video games support as well as lots of development tools installed. On Aurora you can still install Steamâs Flatpak but the native Steam package in Bazzite allows for better gamemode, Steam In-home streaming and Sunshine support. (Thatâs the main reason I switched from Bluefin DX to Bazzite DX)
Oh and Bazzite allows you to chose between KDE and GNOME.
now i am confused so i may use bazzite?
They are both great choices, and you can switch from one to the other with a simple command line and a reboot if you want to find the one you like most.
My usecase is the same as yours âmostly development, general computer use but also want good gaming performance.â
I initially used bazzite - because of the excellent early kernel work there by antheas (sp!) for my Flow Z13 2025 laptop.
But for me it was a bit too bleeding edge with misc minor breakages. Once the 6.14.x kernels reached all the distributions I switched to aurora-dx. OMG so nice. And gaming IMO âjust worksâ if you type âujust install-gaming-flatpaksâ per Gaming on Aurora | Aurora.
If you want Steam out of the box, install bazzite-dx. Otherwise, for desktop use the difference is minimal imo.
Yes, thatâs exactly it. Thereâs a little bit more info on Bazzite DX on this thread : Introducing the Bazzite Developer Experience (Alpha)
One caveat though: I donât believe there are ISOs yet, so you would have to install Bazzite non-DX first and then rebase to DX.
