I’m on Bluefin-latest, I just noticed this new icon in the Activity Overview, but when I click on it, nothing happens.
That shortcut should activate a “desktop icons” extension. I haven’t done a clean install of Bluefin recently, but I manually installed “GTK4 Desktop Icons NG (DING)” and it activates when I run the shortcut you mention. I don’t know if Bluefin currently includes a desktop icons extension by default.
When I first installed it, “GTK4 Desktop Icons NG (DING)” was the only extension missing from my typical setup, so I proceeded to add it manually.
Does the fact that this new icon has appeared mean that “GTK4 Desktop Icons…” is now part of the system by default?
I thought perfection couldn’t get any better, I was wrong…. Bluefin FTW, bravo to you guys and gals, theys and thems.
Honestly, I thought the shortcut was created once I installed the extension and doesn’t disappear if you uninstall it.
To test, I uninstalled the extension and then manually removed the desktop shortcut. I then reinstalled the extension, and the desktop shorcut reappeared. Perhaps in your case, it was left over from a previous installation, because there is no system extension included in Bluefin that references desktop icons, at least not in my installation.
As I said, the extension was the first and only one I manually installed right after my fresh install, that was almost one year ago.
The icon just appeared a few days ago, so it’s not something I did, it was the result of a system update, and I thought UBLUE decided to finally include the “GTK4 Desktop Icons…” extension as a default.
