There was recently a post from a former member of the Bazzite team that there were ongoing discussions with GPD about Bazzite support for the GPD WIN5. We wanted to clarify some confusion surrounding this situation.
-
GPD is Not at Fault: We want to clarify that GPD is not a fault for any misrepresentation of Bazzite support. They were unfortunately misled by communications from the former member.
-
Team Changes: This former member was removed from the team for several Code of Conduct violations over the last few years. By an overwhelming majority vote by the Universal Blue members, the decision was made to remove them from the project. This action was taken on December 16th, 2025.
-
Offical Communication Channels: All ongoing communications with vendors or device manufacturers should be done through our official press@bazzite.gg email address. No Bazzite maintainers will contact you for any offical project communications through personal email addresses. This will validate that you are speaking with a current member of the project.
-
Verifying Official Images: As a reminder, all Bazzite images are signed with the Universal Blue key via cosign and available only from the ublue-os namespace in the GitHub Container Registry. You can download the key here, and you can verify an image via:
cosign verify --key cosign.pub ghcr.io/ublue-os/image-name-here:latest
If the image you’re about to use does not pass this check and purports to be Bazzite, it was not built by us and should be discarded.
Moving Forward with GPD
We would like to turn this into a positive outcome for all parties involved. We’d like to help GPD expand Linux support beyond Bazzite for future devices. We also ask that you refer any questions you have about Bazzite support on GPD devices to this post.
We are truly thankful to our community for all of their support through the years for Bazzite. We are excited for the future.
