The Stable Release of Bazzite Deck 44 is Coming

It’s been a long road and we appreciate everyone’s excitement and patience as the Stable release of the brand new Deck/HTPC image of Bazzite draws near. With it many new features and software to keep you focused on your games.

Testers Wanted

The worst of the worst bugs have been steadily chipped away at by our testers and devs over the last few months, and we’re ready to begin our final phase of testing to ensure everyone’s experience is as smooth as possible.

We could especially use help from folks with Ayaneo, AOKZOE, OneXPlayer, and GPD Win devices, but all are welcome. Here is what you need to know to get started:

  • We do most of our coordination through our Discord Server
  • We have a dedicated testing thread that you can find here
  • You can move into the testing track easily by using the Bazzite Portal app or simply typing brh rebase testing into your terminal
  • If you encounter too many issues and want to go back to stable you can do so via the Bazzite Portal app or brh rebase stable in your terminal
  • Logs can be easily obtained via ujust logs-this-boot and ujust logs-last-boot
  • Logs should always accompany any bug reports
  • You may be asked to open issues on GitHub to help track issues here

New Deck Image Features Include

  • Our gamemode session now closely follows SteamOS/Nobara/ChimeraOS/Others. Most of the controls such as TDP and RGB are done entirely through the Steam UI
  • OpenGamepadUI takes over the extended QAM overlay role, providing the ability to change input modes and other options not exposed in Steam. Also includes the ability to install plugins made by the community
  • Updates can now also done through the SteamUI and changelogs in Steam will now be more accurate

We expect some minor regressions in handhelds not owned by our team. In the event you encounter such a regression we ask that you report it to us with logs. These reports will help us and every other Linux gaming distro using the OGC stack, and will help us eliminate any regressions before launch.

For anyone that wants to stay on Bazzite 43 a little longer, you can pin your current image before August 15th (subject to change) by following this guide:
Updates, Rollbacks and Rebasing Guide

Desktop Testers Needed Too

Highlights include:

  • CardWire - a modern eBPF replacement for switcheroo and supergfxctl with a fancy UI to make iGPU/dGPU setups as easy as possible
  • Our new GUI Bazzite Updater app
  • The latest and greatest Mesa & Kernel

Outside of the major changes above, we’ve spent the last few months cleaning up all of our images right down to the ujust recipes, and Bazzite Portal now comes with a helpful welcome section for new users.

The Wait is Almost Over

We’ll use the next couple of weeks for additional shakedown time and work through updating our documentation to reflect these changes!

Thanks for your continued support and confidence while we work to continue making Bazzite even better!

Not going to do any testing if you’re not going to look at feedback here

This has always been true for all of Universal Blue, GitHub is the source of truth. We look at our Discourse of course but this isn’t the best place for tracking long term issues, nor is it as fast as Discord for live support.

If here is the only place you can provide feedback by all means do it.
