Nvidia 555 drivers incoming, important information!

Yes, they are now all using the new Nvidia driver 555, unfortunately.

Another hybrid laptop here (Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i 2024 model). I use X11 due to some apps that still donā€™t support Wayland.

Ever since I got this driver my laptop is so unstable (kernel hangs) that Iā€™ve to disable the Nvidia card in the BIOS.

Hopefully situation will improveā€¦

I.rebased to Bazzite to see if it was better there and the update also messed things up but then the problem disappeared and my hybrid laptop is as good.as before the update with nvidia on wayland, i donā€™t know if some update fixed it because i did nothing but updating and restarting many times.

Will this fix the flickering issues in Chrome based browsers or is it a Wayland issue?

Iā€™m running Brave which is based on Chrome and i donā€™t have any flickering.

Sorry, but when I make those selections in Firefox Flatseal section, my Firefoxs shows totally glitched graphics. Unusable. Is there something else I can do other than switch to X11?

You could rollback to before the update and pin the working version to boot on it (at every boot) until this problem gets fixed.

Ah, ok thanks. No I prefere to stick to Nvidia 555 for overall better performances then. I will wait until the Mozilla Team put a new update to solve this.

Nvidia has deemed these drivers as stable. So they are now rolling out to most fast moving distros if they havenā€™t already. Itā€™s on Mozilla to fix this problem now.

I had this issue too (weird diagonal striping made Firefox unusable), but found a fix by installing org.mozilla.firefox from the Flathub Beta repository. It doesnā€™t yet address the Wayland crashing, but with those Flatseal permissions switched off, itā€™ll render fine.

BACK UP YOUR FIREFOX PROFILE FIRST, since this is kept in your home directory and the beta will increment the profile version, meaning itā€™ll no longer work with the ā€œolderā€ version on the stable Flathub package.

I just started getting Firefox crashes about 1-2 weeks ago, is there a fix for it? Using the built-in Aurora one.

Iā€™m running into this issue too. Not sure if itā€™s really related to the nvidia 555 update though.

Seems to be fixed on 128.0.3

I have Firefox 128.0.3 and it crashes instantly after opening it. Itā€™s not fixed.

Itā€™s already fixed with ver 130. Will be released on next 9 Sept. if I am right.

Yeah, I saw on the Firefox bug tracker that Wayland support is WNF for 128 and 129, but slated for 130. Surprised at the lack of urgency, honestly.
