[Meta] Time management for open source?

How do you make time for open source contributions? Any tips for “work” life balance?

For me I don’t have a super organized schedule, but I do have tasks and such organized. The idea is that I’m already to go on an evening when I can spend time on open source. Recently I’ve also brought more stuff to my phone so I can do more from there as well. But I’m not in engineering so my needs and flexibility are different?

How do you structure yourself? Looking for ideas.

Here’s a collection of advice from a bunch of my friends! This isn’t day-to-day advice but I try to have a deeper understanding of the root cause:

That’s the beginning and end of the conversation, IMHO. It’s perfectly fine to let your personal needs (both practical and aspirational/educational) guide your contribution efforts. Especially if you’re using the open source and unpaid phrases interchangeably. After all, if we lived in a software utopia where all personal needs were already met then there might not be a need for additional contribution.

Yeah, that’s true and in some respects already wins out today. I’m just wondering if there are ways I can squeeze in more time or do so in a way that doesn’t add to stress or guilt. Sometimes you can find a way and sometimes you can’t.
