There’s an issue about this filed somewhere, it should be a toggle, turn devmode on and off instead of a manual rebase, we just haven’t gotten around to it.
Noob here - Thank you!! This helped me attempt to rebase to bazzite-dx-nvidia, and then rebase back to bazzite-nvidia:stable. I eventually found it in the documentation (if it was a snake it would have bit me), but your exchange helped me get back up and running.
Here’s the issue I ran into. This was on reboot after the grub menu - no clue what it means:
[FAILED] Failed unmounting etc.mount.
386.5657981 (sd-umount)[21651: Failed to unmount /run/shutdown/mounts/068ab7bb1161ba71: Device or resource
[306.569616] systend-shutdown[1]: Could not detach DM vdev/dm-Ø: Device or resource busy
[386,5826691 systend-shutdownt11: Unable to finalize remaining file systems, DM devices, ignoring.
Thankfully I was able to use the grub menu to go back to the previous image (layer? I dunno), and then rebase back to stable.
I wasn’t concerned about any data loss or anything, but I really wanted to know how to do it the proper way rather than giving up and reinstalling bazzite from usb. Needless to say, I was frickin pumped when I got back to bazzite-nvidia:stable.
I hope so. My first impression is I would rather layer packages on standard bazzite.
I know this is an early alpha state for the Developer Experience, but I’m just going to say it. SDDM is a jarring addition to DX, especially when coming from the standard “console-like” bazzite-deck
image.
The option to switch between gamescope-session and plasma at login is nice, but it breaks the “Switch to Desktop” functionality in the prior.
The default SDDM theme also tucks the session selection into the corner where TV overscan can potentially obscure part of it. For an OS where the session is meant to be swapped, this should probably be moved closer to the center, in a way that it draws attention.
I recall that SteamOS has (or, had) an option to persist the plasma session, and return to default behavior. steamos-session-select plasma-persistent
& steamos-session-select gamescope
respectively. I think a similar (less hidden away) option would be preferable on systems with only one user.
I know these are still early days for bazzite dx but are there any plans to bring it to legacy nvidia cards like the 10XX series?
Will this have podman-compose with it as well? Doesn’t have to but since Bazzite already came with podman I would imagine this might be a convenient add-on.
I am excited to try this out when its ready
brew install podman-compose
?
Yes this is great and what I am looking for.
I actually forked it and changed it to actually use the bazzite-asus-nvidia-open image, as I am on an Asus laptop. I could have used the Nvidia image which was already provided, but it looks like this is using a deck image, and I would rather not use a deck image.
But then it is great that I was able to build my own image thanks to it being quite easy with ublue.
im not a fan of godat it lacks resources that unreal or unity has i have been trying to use unity on bazzite its been a terrible experience high ram and cpu usage compared to garuda linux or fedora workstation and high ram usage on statup idle like 4GB right on bootup which kinda got me worried, nothing was running no auto start apps so i decided to install garuda linux and compared to bazzite its much more smooth no high ram usage on idle
