Hello! Im completely new to Linux in general and want to try it out. For that, I installed Bazzite in dual boot mode to my Windows 10.
The installation went well, but I messed up right after. I was playing with the settings like Font size and accidentally put the brightness WAY down. Like, I cant see the screen, at all. The only way I knew I had logged into the computer was the white QR code from Steam login at startup (hadnt set it up yet).
I tried pressing the keyboard function keys both with, and without pressing Fn key. The sound keys for volume work, but not brightness. But the keys do still work in Windows.
Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
You might try switching to a terminal, (ctrl+alt+f2) and after login, rpm-ostree install brightnessctl && sudo rpm-ostree apply-live (input password) followed by brightnessctl s 255 then ctrl+alt+f1 to return to gui.
caveat: rpm-ostree is actively discouraged, as it complicates & slows the update process, but some things I want to install needs to communicate with the hardware or other programs.
I do try to use it sparingly.
A literal flashlight til you find the brightness slider might also work. Good luck
In my case, I just installed Bazzite again. but for future’s sake still tested your options.
The issue I found is that terminal brightness is the same as the screen brightness. I lowered (and later increased) the brightness of the screen and the terminal followed suit. Also, flashlight was sadly not enough
Found a work around.
I manually set keyboard shortcuts to increase/decrease the brightness. Alt+Up and Alt+Down (Note I overwrote the Default action of Alt+Up, which is Navigation Up. Considering my laptop has a keypad, it seemed the safest to overwrite).
