Hi all, I switched to Bazzite from Windows 10 for the steam options and I an using it for a dily run machine. I have noticed that it tends to lock up and freeze often while using it. Are there an tweaks to eliminate or diagnose this. ( I have just update the OS)
Cheers and Beers
P.S. I looked into the posting on git-hub and man it is not new user friendly. I have used linux in the past a long time ago but dont recall the coding protocals
I will try to be as clear as possible, let me know if anything is confusing. First thing first, can you type your system specs so we know what type of hardware you are using? Your GPU, CPU, ram, etc. When troubleshooting, first you should give some information people can work on. If you go to start menu (pressing meta key) and type “info center” you will find a user interface that will give you all information you need. Press “Copy Details” on top right and paste it here.
After that, can you open a terminal (ctrl+alt+t should do it) and type the following in there:
rpm-ostree status
and share the results here? Ctrl+c won’t work on terminal so try to right click and click copy. Mine says the following, for example:
I hope this helps. I will admit the system seems to be better. I think the issue may have been Steam Hogging resources while downloading. I pause downloading but some times they start back up. Since I have other issues with Steam, I have not been downloading.
The PC is a new build roughly a month old but the Large drives are a few months old.
One of the old other drives crashed loosing majority of the data.
I hope this helps.
Thanks
What is the GPU exactly? Also I see a couple NTFS drives. Are you dual booting? Linux does not really support NTFS. That might be part of the issue. Unless you are dual booting and have to use NTFS, please use a different file system, either btrfs or ext4.
The Graphics card is a Radeon RX580 Bazzite is the only OS.
The Reason I Has the NTFS Partitions is that I dont have the drive space to back up 6TB of data.
I will convert the NTFS Drive to ext4 once I can back it up safely.
That machine should not be locking up, its a perfect machine for Linux, and for Steam, I have a test machine at the moment using an RX 580 8GB, solid as a rock, maybe check temps of everything, make sure nothing is getting hot, I will assume that everything was fine under Windows 10?
Id say just check the temps of everything, make sure nothing is overheating first, mainly the GPU.
Lockups are usually hardware related, not saying its the only cause, but is the first place to look, if everything seems good, you could also test another distro to see if its a software related issue, this would be my approach.
Thanks for your input. As I an currently having a drive/directory issue with steam I am not downloading games at the moments and the Machine appears to be running fine so I susspect that may have something to do with it. Cheers
As I mentioned earlier. The issue seemed to be when I was at the time dowmloading large steam games onto a Drive with ntfs format.
I have since switch the drive to native ext 4. I am attemption againg to download and run games.
I am doing this as steam game storage issues on ntfs drives and the partitioning could be the problem.
There have been no more issue of freezing while I have been addressing this dilemma.
I will keep you posted.
