Fast moving, fresh apps and deprecation dilemma

So, this is what is exactly in the mission statement page:

Now, a few changes, I’m not bothered by. Even the deprecation stuff is annoying, but it is within scope of the mission. It is after Bazaar got involved that I made my issue known, because that makes it confusing, to me, as to why other things have to be deprecated but we have some new stuff being incorporated.

A part of this is because, as I’ve stated before, Jorge wears two hats of Bluefin and Universal Blue. Which is fine. It’s just that it’s not clear when something is for Bluefin or Universal Blue, when it started to mix in various projects, internal and external, being spoken in different categories.

Ultimately, what I wanted is clear messaging. I dropped Manjaro when it wasn’t clear what they’re doing with the Mesa h264 codec, and didn’t mention it in their update announcements – all I know is that, they removed, restored, and then removed it in their repo.

If there is going to be a big change, that’s fine. But unite them in one place, explain clearly why this is needed, what it means for various users. For example, Bazzite Buzz was useful when that was a thing – a general one for ublue-os or Bluefin would work.

If there is a change in how ublue-os operates, that’s also fine, but it could be preemptively explained before I have several questions. Even a simple “hey, we know there’s a big change right now, please wait while we prepare a proper explanation,” would help.

I want something that will work on my ROG Ally. Right now, Bazzite is the closest to a Just Work option to it, and I do like the Universal Blue model as a whole. As I’ve already stated: I can tolerate GTK and “non-pure” KDE environment, if there’s a good reason for it. It’s why I haven’t been clamoring about getting Karton, only asking once, because I know it’s not ready yet.

I am, however, unsure about a toy project that is only a month old being pushed as The Next Big Thing.

Edit: Honestly, this is driving me crazy. I feel gaslighted when someone said “the problem is that you don’t want changes,” and then I took another look at the mission to confirm what the messaging had been and if it’s understandable why I’ve been alarmed with the exact changes that has been happening lately.

At the very least, I think it is understandable that I wanted better communication, as someone who don’t go to the Discord. Ultimately, I think only time can calm me down, but I’d really rather not go through the same panic cycle when next sets of policy changes is implemented. God knows I got enough of that every time I open the news.

What was your experience when you tried it?

Sorry that you felt gaslighted, but I just quoted something you said about yourself, and you made it as a general statement, not as pointing to a peculiar change.

It’s been months since the discussion about a Flatpak centric store has been highlighted as something that would be implemented if possible (first with another project named Souk).

Bazaar has not still replaced Gnome Software or Discover. It’s very much included alongside them, as a beta test. How is that not the kind of forewarning you want, I do not get.

Not only are you forewarned, you also get to give feedback to the project. It’s way better that the “hey we have a roadmap for the next cycle, and we will be replacing Gnome Software” messaging which you seem to deplore was not clearly communicated.

Not only are you getting the message clearly, and well in advance, you are also getting the beta to play with! How that could be more transparent, I can’t fathom.

The way the project is going has been made very clear, you get all the tools you need to evaluate it, are even consulted on it, and can still use the tools you have used in the past until the change is made, if it is.

I won’t be continuing this discussion. You went from raising some valid concerns, which were answered by the devs, then started to play the victim and saying you were being gaslighted.

This is not a discussion about Ublue or Bazaar anymore, you made it a discussion about your idiosyncratic needs, and there is nothing for me to say about that except what I already said : if a project does not meet your needs, it just does not.

Of course I would feel gaslighted when you just dismissed everything else I said, take in a small part of what I said out of the rest of the context, and then I went back to check what is in an official document, in the main website, that is part of a core messaging of what is Universal Blue is supposed to be.

If I am treating the project in a way that it never presented itself as, sure, that’s my fault. But the official document says one thing, and then someone else says, “sounds like an “I don’t want change” you problem.”

This isn’t just about Bazaar. Bazaar is one thing on top of other things. Bazaar is just the last news that came up before I started speaking. I was already thinking about what I wanted to say since the Deprecation post, but I decided it’s not a big deal since it didn’t clash with the official messaging of what Universal Blue is, and I can’t reasonably ask for it reverted since it’s clear that’s what ublue-os would do. But then Bazaar came in, in the announcement thread that is in General category, so naturally I’m confused as to which part of that align with the “sustainability and maintenance” messaging?

If the mission of Universal Blue has changed, or some part is of a higher priority, then make it clear. Maybe it’s just my brain being autistic about it, but I’m not going to let myself be gaslighted into forgetting the issue here.

See, this is why I feel powerless. Sometimes, FOSS project just says, “This is what we’re doing, we’re not changing our mind about it, you can just fork it if you disagree.” Or some variation of “you’re not contributing with code or money, therefore your voice don’t matter.”

I just want to voice my opinion and be heard, but nope. It always comes back to that. Honestly, even a simple, “We will take it into consideration,” would have sufficed.

“You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

Do you need to be this snarky?
