You’ll want to use this fork of Proton made for systems that can’t use Vulkan 1.3 or higher. Use ProtonUp-Qt or ProtonPlus to easily install it or follow the manual instructions in the Github repository.

In some scenarios, you may need this Steam launch option to use the slower OpenGL translation:

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%

However that’s only required when your GPU doesn’t support Vulkan at all or special edge cases where Proton-Sarek doesn’t run properly on a specific game.
