CEC with the UGreen DP to HDMI 2.1 Adapter?

Fresh install of Bazzite 44, having a few problems with no luck getting help on Discord - so thought I’d try here, starting with this one.

I have the UGreen DP to HDMI adapter (Amazon.com: UGREEN 8K@60Hz 2K@240Hz Active DisplayPort to HDMI Unidirectional Adapter | Support 4K@240Hz, DP 1.4 PC to HDMI 2.1, HDCP 2.3 Display Male to Female Cable Aluminum Converter Compatible with AMD NVIDIA : Electronics). It is supported in SteamOS via this project: GitHub - Twsts/steamos-cec-toolkit: SteamOS HDMI-CEC toolkit for DIY Steam Machines with ExternalVolume, CEC receiver volume, and input switching · GitHub - but that project doesn’t work on Bazzite, and then I saw the Enable CEC sleep synchronization setting in Bazzite so thought I’d give that a try. It says is enabled, but it is not turning the TV on/off.

Is that setting supposed to support CEC through this adapter, or is it meant only for the Pulse-Eight? If the latter, any chance of Bazzite working to incorporate the SteamOS CEC toolkit project into Bazzite for this adapter?

tl;dr: I went through this last month, same UGREEN DP to HDMI unidirectional dongle. I CEC 100% worked until I switched to 44 by wiping out my SteamOS 3.9 or 3.10 install (on the exact same PC and hw). I’ll quickly include my personal setup and quick ujust recipies I’d try and test one by one each after a reboot. SteamOS GameMode’s Menu/Settings/Power holds the CEC config options (I’m on using the Beta Steam Client). I could use my remote to move around in SteamOS after my first listed step.

My setup:
OS Image - bazzite-deck-gnome:stable (current)
GPU - AMD Radeon 9600 XT

I would personally run the following bazzite ujust recipies:

  1. cec-sleep disable (to follow my own steps/configuration)
  2. configure-amd-hdmi21 (this was enough to make my remote control SteamOS’s focus with direction buttons/select/back)
  3. cec-mode Choose the “Native” option (why not use SteamOS’s own setup since it already worked for you?)
    2else. cec-mode Might as well do “dGPU” next if it’s still not working? I guess?
  4. cec-sleep enable (my sleep/disconnect timings are agressively… “eco-friendly”.)

Some Time Later: cec-sleep disable (after having your TV “surprisingly” power off after every-single-1-Minute-distraction (waking nightmare: perpetual controller disconnections))

You might not have to do Step 0. The magic sauce should entirely be Step 1.

Long story…long:
I think the way it worked is SteamOS 3.9 early adopted (some? all? eagerly anticipated, certainly!) advancements incorporated into the new kernel along with a giant Mesa video driver update to support it (their Steam Machine leading the charge is my best guess).

Anyway: DP to HDMI through this dongle worked before, Linux started supporting this particular dongle. There are many kernel patches relative to display/graphics/gpu/devices/etc. that I believe were chosen to be akin to “experimental” and “not default… yet”.
