Booting from USB-stick to test RAM

Hi,
I have a secondhand FrameWork laptop and I noticed I have 16 GB + 8 GB = 24 GB of RAM. I bought (secondhand  ) 32 GB of RAM, so I would like to test 32 GB + 16 GB.
I know a lot of people advice to use two slots with the same amount (and even brand) of RAM. But just as much (all-tough, I didn’t really count every post on the whole internet) people say it could work perfectly. Anyway, I bought it, so I’m going to try!

I think Memtest86+ is a good tool to test my RAM, before and after what hopefully is an upgrade. You have to boot from a USB-stick to use it. Is safe to do that? Are there things I should think of before proceeding?

I think it depends on the computer but it is possible you get a message when you boot, that the hardware has changed. That is a good sign cause the system has recognized the new RAM module. Do what it says and you can use it straight away.
When you don’t get a message, boot into the BIOS and look for the RAM size to see if the old module is gone and the new one is in.

Hi all,
So, on the Framework you use F11 to enter the boot menu, but first you have to use F2 while booting, to disable secure boot. Otherwise, you can’t boot from the USB-stick.
(You can also whitelist the EFI file on the USB-stick, but for me it wasn’t clear which file that exactly was, I had two options. To be sure, I disabled and enabled secure boot).

Second: I thought memtest would also give an idea about the performance of the RAM, but that’s not it’s purpose. So now I only have my own subjective experience to know if the extra RAM is a difference…
