Latest bazzite installer, iso burned with rufus from a windows box verified iso works on another system.
What happens:
Boots up to a point where there is a black desktop background nothing else on screen except the cursor. System fans all immediatly max out and the system begins to cook. Installer never reaches a point where you can interact. ctrl-alt-f# combinations won’t get you to a terminal window. Have to hard shut it down.
Anyone else experiencing this with a framework laptop?
So I tried the work around install. Installing kinoite first, that gets me a different problem I can get that to show me the gui installer, partition the drives, gets installed reboots, and then the keyboard just won’t work after the os is installed (it works in bios, it works at grub, it won’t work once the os loads.) so the work around to installing bazzite is essentially a non starter for me too.
you should try flashing with Fedora Media Writer, it is more reliable than Rufus for creating Bazzite (and any Fedora-based OS) installers, also there is a legacy ISO if the live ISO doesn’t work
Ok buckle up this is a fun one. Its got nothing to do with the image. Turns out its a fundamental architecture problem of the framework 16 current model and the 1tb expansion drived. So you have USB bus on the left and right. The top port on each side can draw 3 amps, that’ll be taken by the 1tb drive, that then limits the middle port on that side to 1.5 amps, and the bottom port at 900m amps. Here’s the kickerthough even if you plug in something that is less than the 1.5 or 900m amp limit you blow the bus, and the keyboard being on the same controller dies with it. You essentially can’t plug in anything more than the 1tb drive on one side of the framework laptop So now you’re limited to 3 expansion slots on the other side. 1 has to be power (if you are using an amd extended graphics card) and that leaves you with 2 slots.
Solution? That’s the great part there is none. Either don’t use the 1tb drive or don’t use all the slots on your machine. even though the way its advertised you would expect to be able to still use low power modules on the same side as your tb drive.
The result for this whole thing is that you keep crashing the usb controller while trying to install and well installs don’t like that, not much of a surprise there since you’re installing from a thumb drive. My reccomendation. Don’t buy the current model framework 16 unless they make fundamental change to the architecture or you absolutely do not need to have an extra tb of storage. I’m absolutely disgusted right now and considering returning this thing.
One other thing to note. Yes you can install the base os without the 1tb drive plugged in but it does not negate the architecture problem. Once you are in the base os as soon as you plug that 1tb in with anything else you’re crashing your usb controller.
