ive done everything i can to figure this out, searched everywhere i can think of, fiddled with every setting i can find in kde’s display settings and my tv’s picture settings. im at a loss. im posting this here because I’m not certain if this is a kde problem, a bazzite problem, or even a tv firmware problem.
-tv is a tcl r646, its the only display connected. bazzite 43, kde plasma 6.6.4, kernel 6.17.7.ba29.fc43
-started happening a few months ago, when i swapped out an hdmi2.1 active displayport adapter for a regular hdmi cable in anticipation of native hdmi2.1 support. i dont recall if i updated the os around this time.
-when hdr is off, things look fine i think? it doesnt seem washed out or abnormally dark to my eye.
-when hdr is on, it definitely doesnt look right. its neither washed out, or obnoxiously dark though. it really looks like sdr in fact.
-the hdr calibration wizard’s test image goes completely white at exactly 145 nits, and at 144 nits the plasma logo is very visible, instead of barely perceptible.
-ive verified with kscreen-doctor that the display is reporting hdr capability and a 766 nit peak brightness.
-i just noticed as i was typing this out, the test image becomes visible at a maximum of 454 nits when the screen dims, and ive verified that its kde dimming the screen and not the tv.
-this problem affects game mode as well, as i can enable hdr in borderlands 3 but the test image is fully white at the minimum allowed 400 nits.
